Comments: The format was one best ball closeout and we played from the blue tees. It was an interesting format for Chris & Mike but they needed to win it all to make the top bracket for the championship. Filling in Steve was Andy with a 2 index. With a 1 handicap Andy had to give a lot of strokes...14 & 22 for C&M and 19 for Hank. Chris came out of the box on fire, he was -1 after 4 holes leading to C&M being -4. However H&A came back winning the next 3 holes to only being down 1. That streak was short lived with C&M winning 8 & 9 to go 3 up making the turn. Andy birdied 13 to cut the lead to 2. Chris matched Andy's par on 14. Mike won 15 with a net par to go 3 up with 3 to go. Andy & Chris both hit one of their shots out of bounds leaving the hole to M&H. Both were getting strokes and Hank was able to make a net par but fortunately Mike was getting 2 strokes and managed to get a net birdie to close out the match. The 2 hole press began on 17. Chris had a net par to match Andy and on 18 C&M each had net pars to win the press. Hank had some great shots, especially the birdie on 10. Chris carried the load for most of the round with some help from Mike late. The wind was Andy's enemy most of the day but it was fun to watch him hit booming shots time after time. It was a beautiful day enjoyed by all and the 19th hole drink wasn't to bad either.

Comments: The format was best ball, Nassau. The day started out with a steady rain. WE were not sure if we would get the round finished. However, we played on. After the third hole the rain slowed and then stopped. It was game on! Brian parred the first hole in the pouring rain. John parred the 2nd hole in the pouring rain. We realized we were mudders. We were up 2 and the rain stopped. The 3rd hole was halved. The 4th hole John & Chris parred. B/J ham & egged it till we were up 5 holes by the ninth hole. The sun was shining bright and hot and John was feeling good. We started the back nine with C/M both parring the hole. Brian thought " The worm has turned". Chris was getting back to is game. But no, this was John's day! He parred the 11th hole. We were down 2 on the back till John parred the next 4 holes with strokes to win the Nassau and the press. One of John's best rounds. He truly is a Mudder! The day was so hot, Brian could not stick around to bask in the win with Chis and Mike, both great competitors and great friends. John and Brian have had a great time this season. Playing with some new great guys and the old great guys.

Comments: Format was bestball/bestball Nassau. Team R/T got off to a good start winning the front +3. We halved #10. Zak's par on 11 won the hole. We halved #12. Team Z/E won 13 and the Z/E team were up +2 for the back 9. #14 -a par 3 was a critical hole. Everyone was stroking off Ed's ball. Rich's 4 halved Ed's 3 . Zak had a downhill 15 foot putt and Tony had a 5 foot uphill putt. Zak drilled his for a net 3 but Tony's putt just missed so instead of a win for team R/T, team Z/E won 1 point and the overall match was now even. Zak got 2 strokes on #15 and his par net eagle won 1 point. Team Z/E took two points on #16 and won the back and were now plus 3 for the overall. This is where it got interesting. Team R/T knew they needed 4 points to lock up a place in the final 4. They only had 3 after winning the front. If they won #17 they would be down 1 for the overall and would need to win one point on 18 to halve the match. If they lost 17 they would lose the match but only need to halve the press to get the that 1 point. The problem was Zak was getting 2 strokes on 18 and R/T only one each. R/T made they're decision. All golfers were on the 17th green and R/T made the announcement. "Guys we have decided to give you guys the 17th hole and therefore you have won the match." Zak and Ed looked at each other, Zak said "Wait a minute what do you mean how can you give us the match We're being Palmieri'd . Somethings up." R/T explained the situation to the Z/E team explaining that if R/T halved the press they would be guaranteed a spot in the final 4 . If Z/E won the press they would be guaranteed a spot in the final 4. Z/E looked at each other still confused over the sudden turn of events. "We're being Palmieri'd" said Zak again. But they said Let's do It. We moved to the 18th tee knowing everything was on the line. All 4 of hit good drives. Ed and Rich were on the green in 2, Tony in 3 and Zak in 4. Ed got his par. Tony bogeyed with a stoke for a net par. It all came down to Rich and Zak. Rich had a 5 foot net birdie putt and Zak had a 4 foot net birdie putt. If Rich sank his putt, it would be over and team R/T would be guaranteed a spot in the Final 4. He missed the putt by 6 inches. Zak stepped up and drilled his putt in for the win. Although the R/T team were crushed by the loss, when they saw the pure joy on Zak's face after sinking his putt the loss didn't feel so bad. Drinks at the bar afterwoods were especially great when Chris showed up and bought everyone drinks. Great match!! Great with playing with Ed & Zak!

Comments: The venue was Bellport GC, the  format was best ball Nassau , the weather was perfect.   Team DM took the early lead after Den made par on 1.   Both Bill and Bud made par on 4 which brought the match to even.   It was looking like team BB would go 1 up on 8 when Mike finally woke up, got off Dennis’s shoulders  and sank a long putt from off the green to keep the match even.  Mike’s  par on 9 was enough to give team DM the front.   10 was halved .  Mikes parred 11 to see team DM go 2 up on the match and 1 on the back.  Bud sank a nice par putt on 12 to get the match to within 1.  Mike parred 14 and team DM was + 2 on the match .  Bogies by both D and M on 15 was enough to go up +3 on the match / + 2 on the back.  16 was halved with Bill ,Bud and Den all making par.  Team DM had won the front, and over all .  On to 17 , Mike’s par closed out the match and we went to 18 for the press.   Bill made a great chip to within 4 feet and his bogie along with Den’s was all that was needed to split  the press.  On to Peter’s for a few cocktails and laughs .  Always a fun time when these 2 teams get together.

Comments: Nassau front back overall. It was a dark and dreary morning, the rain came down hard. We had a 10:50 tee time. We started at 12:00 when the rain finally stopped. We all teed off and John and Brian went up the fairway. Chris and Marks cart stopped working. Once we started we were off and running. the first hole was one by John, wiith one of his seven strokes. C&M went even on number three and then went down one again on four and then down two on five. Chris chipped in for birdie on six. One down. Then Mark came alive barely missing a fairway the rest of the round. He shot 41 on the front nine and 42 on the back. However, Brian and John on the back nine halved the 10/11 holes and then Mark proceeded to have no mercy until eighteen. Where Brian and John down five pressed and won the hole. Mark had a great game. We all had alot of fun and laughs and the weather was perfect. The course was in fabulous shape. greens were impeccable. GREAT DAY!!!!

Comments: Format Best Ball Tie Breaker Nassau. Beautiful Day with a bit of wind. Tom a great host at his Vineyard Golf Course. The course was in great shape but boy was the rough a nightmare. The course designer was sadistic.! Just a little of and you're either in a fairway bunker or in the tall weeds. Match was tight front nine with J&S winning by 1. Second nine J&S opened up a big early lead to close the match out on 14 and we split the press. Thid 6000yd parr 70 course plays tough and long. Lot of dialog on saving the world over beers. PS we lost a dozen balls between us.

Comments: Was a cloudy, cool day at Baiting Hollow. The format was best ball Nassau. I'd like to start by thanking Andy for stepping up to help Stevie and I finish the season. Steve is recovering nicely from his eye surgery, but it's up to the doctor if he'll be able to play the season finale. Going into the match Andy was a two handicap, giving Hank 18 strokes, Mark 20 strokes, and Chris 17 strokes, just to keep it competitive...lol. The front nine Hank and Andy were down 2 thru 7 when Andy made par to win hole 8 and Hank had a net par on 9 to win the hole and halve the front. On the back, team H/A put it n high gear to go 3 up thru 14. Mark won 15 with a net birdie, to then lose 16 to Hank's net birdie and the match. The press started on 17. Chris was not at all happy with his play during the match but redeemed himself with a net birdie on 17. Not to be outdone by his brother, Mark net birdied 18 to win the press. Our match finished just before a large outing was getting started so we said our goodbyes in the parking lot. No beers at the bar this time. Always a great time playing with these guys and I can't thank Andy enough !!!

Comments: DISASTER!!!!! CHRIS&MARK TOOK JOE&STEVE TO CHERRY CREEK. NARROW FAIRWAYS AND THICK, THICK ROUGH AND ON TOP OF THAT RAIN IN THE FORCAST. MATCH START WELL ENOUGH WITH JOE UP 3 AND STEVE UP 1 AFTER THE FIRST THREE. THAT WAS THE TEASE!!! CHRIS & MARK WENT 2 OVER & 3 OVER PARR OVER THE NEXT 6 HOLES WHICH GAVE MARK THE LEAD BY 1 AND CHRIS BY 3 AFTER THE FRONT NINE. CHRIS NEGLECTED TO TELL US WE HAVE TO HIT TO THE FAIRWAY. AFTER THE NINE THE FUN REALLY STARTED WITH THE BROTHER DUO SCORING A PAIR OF 41'S TO THROUGHLY KICK OUR ASSES. I WISH I COULD SAY IT WAS GREAT FUN BUT THE DRINKS & APPETIZERS AFTERWARDS WAS GREAT. GREAT PAIR OF GOLFERS (THE BROTHER REILLY TAG TEAM).

Comments: Zach an Eddie chose format which was single best ball Nassau. This could be a very short recap but it will not be. Eddie had to give so many strokes the score card looked like it had a rash. Zach got 1 on 14 holes and 2 on 4 holes. Bill got 1 on 16 holes and 2 on 2 holes. Bud got 16. Well, the match started with Ed and Bud paring 1. Bud felt goo for a second until Zach parred 1 for a net eagle. And now it began. Eddie birdied 2 and 3 and Bill and Bud are down 3. Bud parred 5 and Eddie had 1 of his 3 bogies for the day. Bud and Bill down 2 going to 6 but that did not last long. Anyway Zach and Eddie won the front +4. The back started with Zach and Eddie parring 10. Bud parred 11 to make the back even. Bill parred 13 and Bill and Bud were 1 up. Strange feeling. Bill and Bud won 15 and were 2 up going to 17 which was a tie so Bud and Bill won the back but lost the match by 2. The press is on for hole 18. Eddied was on the fringe in 2. bud was in the green side trap in 3. Eddie got the birdie and Bud had a 10 foot putt to split the press. Missed it. It was fun watching Eddie play and shoot his 69.

Comments: This match was played at The Engineer's Country Club in Roslyn Harbor. The format was Best Ball, Nassau. It was a beautiful golf day. It was a very competitive round of golf. Each team was determined to get points. The first three holes were no blood holes. Hole 4 was won by Brian with a dbl bogey with a stroke. Up one for B/J. Than Dennis got pissed and put three pars in a row! The front nine ended with M/D wining. B/J stared the the back nine with a loss on the 10th hole. Brian parred the 11th hole and 12th, John parred 13 with a stroke. Mike parred 14th hole to stop the bleeding, but it was too late. B/J coasted to a string of winning holes to take the press also. Very competitive and fun! No drinks this time, traffic was a concern to get home. Next Time.

Comments: Bill and Bud chose to play at Bellport and Chris an Mark chose best ball Nassau as the format. Both Bill and Mark had strokes on hole 1. Bill had a 5 for a net 4 and was feeling good until Mark pared for a net 3. We are now wondering how the day will go. Bud pared the 2nd and 3rd to bring the match to 1 up and Bill pared the 4th to go 2 up. Things are looking better for Bud and Bill. Bud pared 5 to go 3 up and birdied 7 to go 4 up and stayed that way through 9. We passed Steve Rach who was going to the first tee. He asked how the match was going. Chris told him we were 4 up and Steve laughed and "right". I guess Bill and Bud have a losing reputation. On to the back 9. Chris and Mark pared 10 to go 1 up on the back. Bud won 11 with a 5 making it even. Stayed that way until Mark pared 15 and 17 to win the back. Chris pared 18 to win the press. We had a tight but fun match and everyone was smiling and we had some good conversation and a couple of cocktails. Chris and Mark are great to play with.

Comments: The Venue was The Vineyards and the format Bestball/Closeout. We all had lunch to start and Tom was the gracious host. Tony's bogey on the 1st hole won the hole and team R/T was off and running. By the 5th hole team R/T was plus 3 and feeling real good. At the turn team R/T was plus 2. It was getting hot and team T/B stopped to get a cold six pack. That's when the tide started to turn. The 12th was a key hole. Rich had a 10 foot birdie putt and Tom had a 20 foot par putt. Tony's putt was right behind Tom's for a bogey so we picked up -not giving Tom the read. Tom was visibly shaken by the move He then drilled his putt into the center of the hole for his par. Rich missed the birdie putt but tapped in for his par. The hole was halved. Rich's par on #13 won the hole sending the R/T team back to plus 3 Billie then caught fire- winning holes 14 & 16. Team R/T was up 1 going to 17. This is a par 3. Tony hit his drive just off the green and chipped to within 4 feet. Tom bogeyed the hole so Tony needed to make the knee-knocker for the victory- which he did. Rich parred 18 winning the hole and the press. The bar closed at 5:00. we barely finished in time to get a cold drink! It was a great day and thanks again to Tom for hosting us.

Comments:

Todays match was between Team 7 ( Steve and Hank) vs Team 8 ( Dennis and Mike).

The venue was Swan Lake and the format was Best Ball / Nassau.

The weather was great and the clouds provide nice coverage .

S/H won the toss . The first hole was halved with nice pars by both Steve and Dennis.

Team S/H was one up after 2 on Hanks par.   S/H held the lead until Hole 5. Den was stroking and  his 5 for 4 evened the match.  Team D/M went 1 up on 5 with Den’s bogey.  His bogey on 8  put team D/M up 2.  Steve had a nice par on 9 .  Team D/M won the front .

Steve’s par on 10 had the match even and S/H 1 up on the back.  Steve made a nice birdie on 12 which put S/H 2 up on the back and 1 up on the Match.  Den’s par on 14 evened the Match.

After Den’s nice birdie on 16 team D/M were 2 up on the Match and 1 Up on the back.  Mike won 17 sinking a 7 footer for bogey and the match was over.   Steve made a nice par in 18 to win the press. The match was always close, the sportsmanship was great.  We had a few cocktails and laughs  afterward.  A fun day.

Comments: Hank and Steve decided to play single best ball Nassau to take advantage of all the strokes from Eddie. The first hole H&S drew first blood with a par for birdie. Eddie then decided that par's weren't good enough, so he birdied four of the next six holes to win the 3rd hole and Zak winning the 5th hole with a bogey net par. One up for team E&Z. It stayed that way through Nine, team E&Z winning the front. Eddie shot a 32 and Stevie a 39 to keep it close. On the back nine Eddie birdied 10 and Steve birdied 11. Hank makes a 20' put to birdie 14 and draws first blood on the back. Eddie got into a little trouble and bogeyed his first hole giving H&S a win on 15. Steve then parred 16 to go 3 up on the back. On the 17th all four golfers made par to give the back and overall to team H&S. The press on the 18th. Hank and Steve are stroking, Zak is getting two strokes. Everyone around the green in two, Zak on the green in four. Zak and Eddie missed their putts, Hank makes his for the win. Excellent round of golf by all players. Zak had a much better round than his score reflects. Had a great time with these guys.

Comments:

Morning Boys..

So a match was played yesterday, Rich Tony took on Mike and Chris.

We played at  Bellport and the format was best ball Nassau.

Rich Tony started off hot by winning 1 and 2 nice way to start. However it didn’t last long, Mike and Chris won the next 3 straight with parrs and bogies.

We halved 6,7 and 8 and were going into 9 one down for the front but the skies opened up and the course was closed.

So guess what we did , we ate some  food  we are all good at. Oh yeah Chris drank !!!.

After about an hour Rich looked at the radar and said looks like it will stop soon and Chris was ready to play.

We went back out and after a while the course was opened however we could not start on 9 to finish the  front because they were mowing so we started on 10  and decided to play 9 after we were done.

We halved 10 and 11 and 12 and13 and 14 and on 15 Tony had a 2 ft putt to finally go up one and yep Mr. deluxe missed it another halved hole , this was a great match.

On 16 we all hit great drives of course Chris was a little past me (Tony ) by about 50 yards …

Rich parred the hole with Chris but Rich was stroking so Rich Tony went up 1 for the back and the match was now even..

Mike and Tony halved 17 with parrs and Rich and Chris halved 18 with parrs so Rich Tony won the back and the match was even.

We went to the 9 tee to finally finish this marathon round Mike and Tony were stroking,  here we go for all the marbles..

Mike and Tony both had  5’s to halve the hole so the entire match was halved 6 points each.

The only bad news is it was so late everything was closed so no drinks.

This was one of the best matches of the year a real battle..

Till next time !!!!!

Comments: Format played was closeout. Hot day but beautiful at Bellport. THe team of J&S started out hot were up 3 after 6 with Joe getting 3 parrs and a bird. Steve picked up from there. We were up 1 after 11 and J&S weren't playing well after the stellar start then Steve said put a mark on the card I am going low from here! Steve proceeded to knock in 4 parrs and 1 bird in the last 7 holes. Unfortunately for Mike & Dennis they were run over by a truck. It was a great match and they kept it close (match was over on 17) thanks to great ham and eggin by Mike & Dennis but Steve was on fire!

Comments:Format was best ball , Nassau

This match was played at Indian Island GC between Tom/Bill vs Brian/John. (Bill’s club). Brian/John never played the course, just saying.
It was a beautiful day, warm and sunny.
The match started out with each team winning a hole, for several holes. It was neck and neck thru 9 holes. However, at the end of 9, Brian/John were up by one! It’s interesting to note that on the 8 hole a rather well endowed cart girl served a little swing oil to Tom/ Bill. I noticed a change of behavior immediately.
By the 10 hole, the fight was on! Tom/Bill proceeded to ham and egg the next four holes and were up 4-0 on the back 9. John called in a “cut man” to stop the bleeding. John stopped the bleeding on the 16th hole . John rose to the occasion and pared the 17th hole to go one up on the press. Brian pared 18 to win the press. Enjoyed the company and golf. A beer at the clubhouse. Priceless
Thanks to all my fellow golfers for tolerating my health issues these past few years.

Comments: The format was Best Ball - Best Ball Nassau This was one of the strangest day of golf ever. We played the first four holes and Bud&Bill we're up by two. All of a sudden there was a loud horn signal that indicated that lightning was in the area. We stopped playing and waited out a 45 minute monsoon delay. The club decided to close the course. So we decided to go the Bellport to play the match. There was some discussion whether we just resume the match or start all over. Per the league rule which states that if a match only goes 4 or less holes then the match starts over. The match was very close with the lead never being more than +4. Chris carried Mike on the front 9 and they won the front +2. On the back B&B won 10 and then we alternated the next 6 holes leaving B&B up +1. On 17 the low score was 5 but Mike got a stroke to win the hole. The match was all even going into 18. C&M were on the green in 3 with B&B laying 4. Chris putted from 40' and made 5. Mike was next and he holed his 30' putt for birdie 4 to win the back and overall. It was a long 7 hour day and we all needed a drink or two so we had dinner at Porters.

Comments: Well it was a windy day at the Vineyards and the course played very tough. Steve & Hank came to play. Billy E & Tom...not so much......We played Best Ball Nassau and after 6 holes Billy & Tom were down 4. and although Tom won 7 & * an halved the 9th.they were still down 2. Tom & Billy made a big mistake not picking up their favorite beverage at the turn as we were trying to beat the incoming storm........not a good idea because we needed the swing lube bad.......Hank and Steve came out swinging and won every hole on the back 9 scoring 42 & 43 against Billy with a 54 and Tom a 48. Tom was trying to talk his partner around the course and was glad there are no cliffs on The Vineyards Golf Course because he was sure Billy would be jumping off one. Toms short game and putting left him out in the cold. If you haven't figured it out yet, neither Steve or Hank wrote this........they hate doing that ! We had some laughs (almost some tears) and we always enjoy playing with these guys. They brought Ham & Egg to a new level and unfortunately Tom & Billy were playing like pancakes and waffles...

Comments: It was two days after the great smoke out day. Sunny with a nice breeze from the south. Clear skies with puffy clouds. The game chosen was best ball close out. Mark started off winning the first hole with a stroke. Chris then proceeded to birdie the next two holes. Tony and Rich weren't happy. Rich took hole number 4 with a par and they were down to two down. Chris and Mark finished the front nine 4 up. Rich won #10 then chris and mark won three out of the next four holes and closed Rich and tony out. there was the press which Chris and mark won after 3 holes with one to spare. It was a great day for the Reilly's, not so good for the other guys. We commiserated over some food at the bar and all left having a fun day!!!! I think Tony may be sandbagging as he hit the last four fairways right down the middle and long. Just saying they have a lot more golf to play

Comments: About all I can say is what a great match. It was back and forth with neither team being more than +1. The match was played at Bellport after Bill won the toss. Tom and Billy E chose best ball Nassau. The teams were even after 9 splitting thev3 points. Tom and Billy were +1 after 16 with Tom taking advantage of getting a stroke on 16. Bud and Bill won 17 to bring the match to even going into 18 where Bud had a 6. Team Bill and Bud took the back, overall and press. I want Billy E to give me chipping lessons. He hit som great shots. I thought the smoke was going to kill us. The smoke was so bad where the ballon the back 9, you could not see where the landed buy really enjoyed the day and the tea. Hopefully things will improve.

Comments: One SMOKEY Day!! and it wasn't from our play. We played single ball and Nassau format. Joe & Steve started off fast and were up 3 after 3. Then Chris woke up and took the next 2 of 3. Joe & Steve ham and egged it to take the 9 by 2. Ten started fast it looked like Joe was going for a hole in one but tailed off at the hole, then Steve hit the same spot and just rolled by the hole, but alas we both missed the birdie put and won the hole with a parr. It was neck & neck the next 5 holes with Mike parring on 13 and 15 and we were even going into 16. Steve & Joe both sunk birdie putts to go 1 up into 17. We halved 17 and on 18 Joe sunk a 45 foot putt for 6 and Steve sunk a 10 footer for parr to take the match, We should sue those Canadians for causing CLIMATE CHANGE by burning all their forests,!! By the By Rich and Tony played as a twosome and finished and hour before us. They sat in the bar waiting for us. Needless to say they consumed a great deal waiting for us and as a result we all shared a huge bill. Gotta LOVE them. Great Day.

Comments: The shock began when we saw the grin on Ed's face. It look devilish! Something was up. We go to the tee and he proudly states we are playing alternate shot and playing from the BLUES. I saying to myself how does a pair of ROOKIES know to play us Alternate shot. We went from getting 16 strokes from Ed to now getting 2. We were visibly shaken. We were down 2 after the first 2 holes. We started to figure out how to play these Rookies and were even after 7 and went ahead on our first stroke hole 8. Pressure start to swell up in the Rooks on 9 when Zac hit an errant drive and we took the front. It was a battle all the way but the old guys ham and egged and squeaked out the match on 15 and won the press on 17. It was a pressure filled day. The fact is these Rookies are going to be force to reckon with. PS Billie didn't get a chance to add you guys to our list so for now you are Frank & Dan. <-Replaced by Zach & Fast Eddie
